Two failure modes matter in this work, and neither is about elegant prose.

Incomplete translations trigger RFEs

The most common reason a translation causes a problem is that something on the page was not carried across — a round seal, a registry book number, an endorsement on the reverse. Under 8 CFR 103.2(b)(3) the translation must be full. Our review pass checks completeness before it checks phrasing, in that order, because that is the order in which the risk sits.

Unnamed translators get struck in litigation

New York and federal courts have excluded translations where the translator was not identified or where qualifications were not established on the record — the point came up in P.K. v. M.P., 2025 NY Slip Op 50673(U), and in Sicom S.p.A. v. TRS Inc. in the Southern District of New York. A company-signed certificate is fine for an I-130 and a liability in a contested proceeding. We issue the right one for the forum, and where the translator signs abroad we use the 28 U.S.C. § 1746 foreign declaration wording.

Where our language coverage is unusual

Uzbek is a thin market in the United States. Most national providers fulfil Uzbek work through a Russian relay or through a lightly edited machine pass, and the tell is in the details: a district name rendered as a person’s name, a patronymic dropped, a Soviet-era form heading translated as if it were modern. We translate Uzbek directly, in both Latin and Cyrillic script, and we know these document formats on sight because we handle the same records every week.

A practical note that saves money: a large share of documents clients describe as “Uzbek” — particularly anything issued before the mid-1990s and a great deal of official correspondence since — are actually written in Russian. We identify the source language at intake rather than assuming from the country of issue.
